A Chatham County State Court jury Wednesday night returned a $10 million civil verdict against the owner of a Savannah State University campus housing complex for the 2013 rape and assault by a serial rapist on an SSU student at her campus apartment.
Jurors found defendant Savannah State University Foundation Real Estate Ventures LLC — a private, nonprofit created to handle the $27 million in bonds through the Savannah Economic Opportunity Authority to purchase the property — liable for negligence to Jane Doe 1 in the attacks at the University Commons on LaRoche Avenue.
