Fighting Nursing Home Neglect & Abuse Across Georgia

Sepsis is a medical condition that can be deadly. It occurs when the immune system must work overtime to fight off an infection, such as an infection from a bedsore or urinary tract infection. In sepsis, inflammation spreads throughout the body through the blood and, if not treated properly, can lead to organ damage which may cause the body to shut down entirely.

Unfortunately, the demographic most likely to contract sepsis are the elderly, especially those with weakened immune systems. This translates to the many frail, physically-compromised individuals who reside in nursing homes across the nation. If you believe your loved one developed sepsis due to inadequate nursing home care, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your loved one’s additional medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Call Tate Law Group, LLC at (912) 234-3030 to arrange to speak with a Savannah sepsis lawyer in a free case evaluation.

Three Stages of Sepsis

Initial nursing home neglect can result in an infection from a bedsore or in another area of the body which will need prompt and accurate care. If this care is not provided, the individual’s condition can worsen. Sepsis is generally divided into three categories with accompanying indicators.

These categories are:

  • First-stage, signs of infection with higher or lower than normal body temperature, rapid breathing, and rapid heart rate
  • Severe sepsis, with worsening breathing problems, abdominal pain, inability to urinate, and a declining mental state
  • Septic shock, in which the person experiences an extreme drop in blood pressure

Septic shock requires intensive care and an effort to restore blood pressure to keep the person alive.

In nursing homes that are understaffed, poorly trained, or poorly managed, the causes of sepsis can range from poor medical care to unsanitary conditions. If your loved one has developed this life-threatening condition through neglect, you deserve the truth about the facility to which you entrusted his or her care. You also deserve justice for the harm suffered.
